Wedding Photographer Vancouver - The Wink Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to the Wink Photography blog!

Hi there! I'm Jana.

Choosing a photographer is one of the most important decisions when planning your wedding. You want to make sure you're choosing a photographer whose work you connect with, but just as importantly, whose personality you connect with. Hopefully through reading about my life, and the stories behind the photos you can get a better idea of who I am and what I love to shoot.

Wedding photography is my passion. It's my dream job, and I love what I do. I do, after all, get to spend most of my weekends celebrating with gorgeous, glowing people on one of the biggest days of their lives. I like to think that that passion shows through my work, and in the relationships we form. I believe in creating fun, fresh and honest images filled with emotion that tell the true story of your wedding day. Send me an email at jana@winkphotography.ca to tell me more about yourself and what you're looking for. I can't wait to hear about your big day!

Interaction is welcome, so please don't be shy! I hope to hear from you. Happy perusing!

Eden & Jeff Tie the Knot!

Eden and Jeff are a super cool couple who definitely make my job feel like anything but work. Their wedding day was relaxed, fun, and completely them.

You can also re-live the E-session antics here.

Wedding tip: If formality isn’t for you, don’t force it. Greeting your groomsmen with a high five during the ceremony may be more your style.

I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again….I love this look on a groom’s face.

Glamourpuss Makeup

I had the opportunity recently to do a little shoot for Glamourpuss Makeup. I love working with other small businesses within the wedding industry, and even more so when that small business belongs to my very talented sister.

She’s always been great with makeup, and with people, so I was thrilled to see her finally get her own business going last year. Her focus is on bridal makeup/hair, but she’s also available for fashion and boudoir shoots.

Here are a few shots from our session. Check out her website at www.glamourpussmakeup.ca

Sarah & Rob hit Granville Island

These two possess one of my favourite qualities: they don’t take themselves, or anything for that matter, too seriously. Which is very valuable when going through planning a wedding. Sarah even kept a clever blog of the ideas and plans that led up to their recent wedding, which I’ll be blogging soon.

But first, here’s the lovely fall afternoon I spent with Sarah & Rob at Granville Island.

Remember I mentioned the lack of seriousness. Rob often likes to spontaneously take it to a new level.

Sarah’s pure enjoyment of it, and tendency to play along, is one of the things that makes them perfect for eachother.

Happy Anniversary Amy & Tyler!

I can’t believe a year has flown by already. It was such a big year, (wedding, home building, and baby on the way!) and I’m sure your 2010 will be even more incredible. Congratulations, guys!

Deb & Sean in Whistler

2 blog posts in 1 day!

This may be a little longer than my average post, and the reason is twofold:

1. I’ve been so busy this season that on the list of priorities, blogging is the first thing to fall behind. So this will be my way of kickstarting 2010 with lots of images and a fresh start.

2. Deb & Sean were so fantastic that I can’t narrow it down to just a few shots. They’re so full of life and love,  and hopefully that shows through in their photos.

Sean moved here from Australia to be with Deb, so it was so great for them to have a day with all their family & friends together in one place. They even rented 2 big chalets to house everyone (including David and I!), and held the simple but raucous after-party there as well. (I have some Australian family, I know how they party!)

What a fun day.

The ceremony was held in the backyard of the chalet.

Having the crazy wedding party nearby can sometimes break up the mood of the more intimate photos, but with these guys that was part of the fun. I loved the couple’s resulting reaction shots.

Now let’s get serious. :)

One of my favourite shots of the day.

And it wouldn’t be a Whistler wedding without a trip up the gondola!

Even when you have a professional photographer with you, it’s still hard to resist. I would’ve done the same.

Walking from the gondola back through Whistler Village was probably my favourite part of the day. These two and their posse were like rock stars coming through town!

Sweet reactions like this lined the streets.

The wedding party stops for a drink in The Mountain Club lounge before joining the rest of the guests for dinner. The restaurant went above and beyond to make this event everything they’d hoped for.

Following dinner were speeches, desserts, dancing, and plenty of beer back at the chalet. Followed then by more dancing and more beer at a club. I hear there is photographic evidence of this last part, and I’m a little scared. :)

Thanks Deb & Sean for being such a great couple to get to know throughout the last year. David & I felt so lucky to be invited to document the day for you.
