Wink Photography Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Hi there! I’m Jana.

Choosing a photographer is one of the most important decisions when planning your wedding. You want to make sure you’re choosing a photographer whose work you connect with, but just as importantly, whose personality you connect with. I know it’s not easy to get a good feel for who somebody is through a website, but hopefully through reading about my experiences and my stories, you can get a peek into my life. I hope that with this blog I can give brides & grooms, their friends and family, and everyone out there a better idea of who I am and what I love to do.

Wedding photography is my passion. It’s my dream job, and I love what I do. I do, after all, get to spend most of my weekends celebrating with gorgeous, glowing people on one of the biggest days of their lives. I like to think that that passion shows through my work, and in the relationships we form. I believe in creating fun, fresh and honest images filled with emotion that tell the true story of your wedding day. Send me an email at jana@winkphotography.ca to tell me more about yourself and what you’re looking for. I can’t wait to hear more about your big day!

Interaction is welcome, so please don’t be shy! I hope to hear from you. Happy perusing!

E&M’s Hycroft Wedding Vancouver

January 17th, 2014

Judging by the look of my blog lately, you’d think I had stopped shooting weddings entirely! In fact it’s been quite the opposite. Judging by the look of my blog lately, you’d think I had stopped shooting weddings entirely! In fact it’s been quite the opposite. This past wedding season was so busy that I wanted to make sure I focused on getting all my editing done and getting images back to clients on time. Also, this summer we found out we’re expecting our 2nd child, and I’m not one of those people that glows and saunters gracefully through pregnancy. The last 6 months of nausea have taken their toll, so the extra things like blogging have really suffered because of it. (I did continue to update the Wink Facebook page throughout the summer though, so be sure to Like the page – http://www.facebook.com/winkphotography -  to stay connected!)

But I digress! Let’s start playing a little catch-up with a gorgeous Hycroft Manor wedding. My couple are very private people, so I’ve agreed to not include their names, and try to narrow the photos down more than I usually would. (Which wasn’t easy!) Clearly I didn’t know what I was missing all these years before shooting a Persian wedding. The spontaneous dancing and singing is so free and joyful…really reinforces why everyone is there in the first place. To celebrate the couple’s love for eachother, and the guests’ joy in being a part of it.

We began the morning at the Wall Centre and had the couple’s “first look” there, before heading down to the athlete’s village in False Creek for some portraits.

It’s all about trust.

6 years ago today, two fantastic people got married and it changed my life almost as much as it did theirs. Before June 2nd 2007, I had years of experience in photography, but had only recently realized that weddings were my passion. Jessika & Byron were the first couple to put their full trust in a girl whose only wedding experience was with close friends, or models pretending to be in love. That trust lit a fire in me, and I then knew that this was what I was meant to do. To this day, I still can’t thank them enough because their confidence started a ball rolling that I don’t see ever stopping.

Last year I said I couldn’t believe it had been 2 years already, and that post feels like just last week. Even though we moved from the area this year, we still had to make the annual trip back to the park by our old apartment for the birthday cherry blossom photo. We plan to keep this up every year, now that it’s tradition….but unfortunately it becomes a very expensive photo shoot if we ever decide to move away.

I can’t believe I have a 3 year old child. And I imagine my mom still can’t believe she has a 30(something) year old child.

(Note: She’s chosen to have the same lion in tow every year, just looking more brown than yellow these days)

As a wedding photographer in Vacouver, I’m so lucky to be part of a very close and supportive network of photographers, as well as other wedding professionals. And because of this, we’re all happy to help out and often enjoy 2nd shooting for eachother. I love shooting weddings, so if it’s short notice and I’m not booked, it’s fun to get a chance to work with someone else. The main benefit for me is that since I’m not the primary shooter, I’m not as focused on the more required shots…so I just get to explore and be creative!

I shot Michelle & Nick’s wedding last year with Brad Hughs and it was a blast. The other interesting part of being a 2nd shooter is I get a rare chance to start the day with the guys! It was fun to change things up.

We spent the morning at the gorgeous Loden Hotel and the staff were SO accommodating. We spent the morning shooting right in the lobby & bar, studio lights and all! What a great space.

Then off to the ceremony at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, performed by one of my favourite marriage commissioners Diane Brown.

David had a blast running Leanne & Justin’s reception photobooth this past summer. It’s such a fun add-on to wedding packages (or any event for that matter) for several reasons. Depending on what time of day you schedule it, it can be great for keeping guests entertained while I’m out shooting portraits with the couple. It also livens up the downtime at a reception, or is a hilarious outlet for “boisterous” guests during last couple hours of the night.

What I love most is it gets people out of their chairs and having fun. And I guarantee you’ll be (pleasantly) surprised to see what your shy grandma or stern boss have been up to when you look through the photos later.
