Charisa & Stewart’s White Wedding!

I loved the mix of gorgeous rich colours in her bouquet.

Charisa & Stewart are such a sweet couple, and were so easy to photograph.

After the ceremony the wedding party popped over to Deer Lake Park for some snowy photo ops before the reception. You certainly don’t see a lot of wedding photos in Vancouver that look like this.

Charisa definitely planned ahead with some sensible, yet adorable footwear. I recommend this strategy to any bride planning on being outdoors on a rainy/snowy wedding day. This could’ve been a painful photo shoot for her in heels, but she ended up being more prepared than we were!

I really had to give the most credit, though, to their very supportive friend who came along to the park to help them out and carry their things…with a smile the whole time.

Thanks for letting me be a part of your big day, guys!

As I mentioned in the last post, we just spent the last week in Arizona for the Digital Wedding Forum photographers convention. It was such a great trip, completely inspirational and rejuvenating. I spent up to 12 hours a day indoors at seminars, so didn’t get to enjoy as much pool time as I would’ve liked, but the information and new friendships I’ve come away with are worth far more valuable than a nice tan.

I’ve been to desert locations before, but the Arizona landscape is unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

Every time we drove past this sign I got the old song stuck in my head. “Carefree Hiiiiiighwaaay, let me slip away on you”…

I was excited to have a day to do some wandering of nearby towns. Cave Creek was full of wonderful eccentricities to photograph.

Why, thank you for the suggestion! I still wonder why “bring your camera” is in quotations though.

This store/shack was quite something. As you can see this priceless artifact is not for sale.

The sign outside the store/shack. As a vegetarian, a little scary…but at least they’re clear about what they sell. I think this one’s going on my wall…if for nothing else, a conversation piece.

One of the most powerful speeches I’ve ever witnessed in my life, was by the keynote speaker of our convention, Australian photographer David A. Williams. I don’t even have a way to explain what he said, but all of us in the room that night shared something very special. The point that hit home for most of us as photographers was when he asked us to picture loved ones in our minds, and essentially asked if we have hard copies of those mental pictures. Most families have never taken the time to be professionally photographed together…and as a photographer I much prefer being on the other side of the lens, so the last real photos (other than snapshots) of me with my family were almost 5 years ago at our wedding.

Long story short, a bunch of us decided on this trip to do a “shoot swap” afternoon. I’ll post the photos the other photographers took of us when I get them, but here are a couple we took of the fantastic Rob & Lauren from Edmonton. Trying to capture the feel of the environment.

I just took this with my little point&shoot one night heading back from dinner, but couldn’t resist.

Another point&shoot from the big party. I just found it funny that wedding photographers basically spend their lives standing on the sidelines photographing parties, so the minute they have a chance to be a guest, it’s time to let loose.

travel Snowbird Paradise

Upon returning home and looking through the photos, I noticed an unusually large number of photos of signs. I’m just always on the lookout for odd things, and there were plenty of them.

Pretty much all the streets in the area were calming names like relaxation, slumber, rocking chair, etc…so this intersection seemed a little off.

travel Snowbird Paradise

Ahhh…that’s more like it.

Now back to real life! I’ve still got another wedding to post asap, and two weddings coming up over the next two weeks…so stay tuned!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the hubby and I are off to Phoenix, Arizona for the Digital Wedding Forum 2009 Convention. It’s a really cool network of wedding photographers from all over the world getting together to attend seminars, swap advice, spend some time shooting in some great desert locations…and perhaps a few margaritas may be consumed by the pool.

I’m looking forward to checking out what new gadgets I can further run up the credit card with, and also coming back with some new ideas and inspiration to keep things fresh.

This is part of the resort where were staying. I still can’t believe it’s not a movie set.

Anyway, I should have email access while I’m there.
And I’ll be sure to share plenty of photos upon my return.

Amy & Tyler’s “Fiery” Engagement Shoot

January 8th, 2009

Tweet Sorry about the pun. I couldn’t resist. Tyler is a Vancouver Firefighter, so they wanted to include the fire truck in their engagement shoot. I love it when a couple suggests incorporating a place /prop/pet/etc that is special to them for their engagement shoot. It lets us do something a little different, that might [...]

Katrina & Tom tie the knot!

I have to admit I’ve done a great job of losing track of time over the last couple of months. Since getting whisked away to Vegas in November with family & friends for my big 3-0, then getting totally absorbed in the slow pace of the holidays…all of a sudden I can’t believe it’s January.

I refuse to call it a resolution, but I will now begin the great blog catch-up with Katrina & Tom’s lovely wedding. Katrina, being the resourceful and organized bride she was, not only got herself all glammed up first thing in the morning, but took care of mom’s beautifying as well.

You may remember the adorable Mac from Katrina & Tom’s engagement session earlier this year.
He’s clearly keeping a close eye on the situation.

Coffee…check. Champagne…check. Protein bars…check. Ready to get married!

We stopped for some family time before rushing the wedding party off to Sendall Gardens. Katrina and her fantastic grandmother couldn’t stop giggling together.

Katrina & Tom were both so sweet and fun that the photo opportunities were endless and the coaching was minimal. Tom was reluctant at first (like many grooms) to have his photo taken, but loosened up during the engagement session, so on the wedding day they could just concentrate on each other.
