Bangs Salon Shoot

I recently had the opportunity to do a model shoot for the lovely ladies at Bangs Salon. You can check out the results on their website www.bangssalon.ca by downloading the ‘holiday look book’. And while you’re at it, book an appointment! Support a small business of very talented women, and get a hot new look too. It’s a win-win.

Here are just a few images from our outing in East Van:

Steph & John’s Brock House Wedding

So this is the furthest behind I’ve ever been in blogging, but for a good reason. This has been the busiest summer of my life, but luckily I’ve gotten to spend so many days of it doing what I love. Between the many weddings, engagement sessions, and other surprises up my sleeve….I’ve now got a lot of catching up to do. Getting the photos processed and in clients’ hands comes first, so unfortunately blogging tends to get put on the backburner.

So without further ado, here are Steph and John. (Who you may remember from their fun e-session in the spring). It was the hottest day Vancouver has ever seen, so the beachfront lawn at the Brock House was a lovely place to spend it.

Steph’s family had rented a gorgeous heritage home nearby (which I highly recommend doing!), so it was the perfect place to spend the morning getting ready.

Steph & John were one of my many couples now choosing to do a “first look” and see eachother before the ceremony. It’s a nice opportunity to have a little time together before the madness of the day begins, and get the photos done while still looking fresh and gorgeous.

Many of the details were thoughtfully designed and crafted by the bride herself. Many of the emails I received before the wedding would come when she was up late sewing table runners or designing place cards.

Kelsi & Mark’s Backyard Wedding

Kelsi & Mark are still on their honeymoon right now, so I’m posting this as a slideshow for them to see for the first time.

I always love the personality and care that goes in to a backyard wedding. Doing everything yourself means a lot of help from family and friends, and it was so heartwarming to see everyone come together to make Kelsi & Mark’s day perfect. Plus, Kelsi’s dad also happens to be an amazing chef and landscape artist, so that helps. As I mentioned before, this was the day of the unforgettable lightning storm, which hit especially hard in Langley. But Kelsi & Mark and all their guests were such good sports that it actually added to the fun, and it’s something none of them will ever forget.

Kelsi and Mark, I just want to thank you for including David and I in your amazing day, and we hope you love the resulting images.

Kelsi & Mark in Steveston

We managed to squeeze in Kelsi & Mark’s engagement session just 5 short days before their wedding day. Normally I like to do them a couple months in advance, but this worked out great because everything they’d practiced was still fresh in their minds. Not that these two needed any coaching, though. The ability to be silly yet sweet together always makes for a very smooth couples shoot.

We’ve since shot their wedding, which occured the day of the unforgettable thunder & lighting storms. They took it all in stride and had an amazing party regardless. I’ll be posting those photos within the next few days, so they can take a peek while on their vacation.

These two laugh so wildly together… it’s a trait that is invaluable as a couple.

The nice thing about Steveston is the variety of locations all in one place. Plus, no crowds to deal with on a hot summer evening.

This is the aftermath of Mark kicking Kelsi in the head as he tried to swing his leg over her….realizing he wasn’t as flexible as he thought. Luckily no permanent damage done 5 days before the wedding, so we were able to have a good laugh about it.

Not just a headshot…

Two blog posts in one day? Who is this girl?! As I’m waiting for batteries to charge and for my bags to pack themselves before leaving for a beautiful backyard Whistler wedding….I decided I could squeeze in another blog post.

Last week I was asked to shoot a downtown corporate headshot session, and it was way more fun than it sounds. Let’s instead call it….a….Lifestyle Business Portrait. Cameron was awesome to work with….a good sense of humour is key in my books. Plus, he was interested in changing things up a little. The first sign, was that he wasn’t looking to sit in a studio with a black backdrop and rest his chin on his fist. I think we managed to keep things within the realm of what his editors will be looking for, while keeping his personality in there as well.

See? No tie. Take that, corporate world!!

Cameron’s lovely fiancee showed up, to “make sure I don’t pull a Sears catalog and throw my jacket over my shoulder”. She was quickly appointed wardrobe consultant. Love it.

And to top it off, Cameron’s fiancee has gotten him hooked on Top Model, so he’s already been practicing ‘finding his light’ and ’smiling with the eyes’.

Thanks, Cameron! You were a treat to work with!

Following this session, we decided to head over to West Vancouver to hit a great event in the park. Fresh Air Cinema puts on movies in the park all summer and this one was kicked off with a performance by the fantastic ROSCO. You may remember them from such weddings as Laura & Mike in Whistler this winter.

_mg_8899blog

I toured around on the beach for a bit. I’m thinking this park would be a great location for an E session in the near future.

_mg_8890blog

Oh, how I love digital sometimes. I never would’ve been able to pull off a shot handheld at night with my old film cameras.

_mg_8907blog

As I was lying on the blanket, watching a very strange movie (for families?), The City of Lost Children, I was distracted by the lightness of the night sky at 11pm. This is exactly how it looked straight out of camera. The reflection of the lights of downtown Vancouver on the cloudy sky is amazing sometimes.

_mg_8911blog

Anyway, that’s a day in my life. :)
