Girls Weekend in Toronto!

My fabulous friend Leanne and I took a last minute trip to Toronto for the long weekend, to visit our other fabulous friend Sarah. Sarah defected to Toronto 2 years ago, and since then, girl gossip time has been sadly lacking. Leanne is now almost 5 months pregnant, and decided this would be her last chance to get in a little vacation without a diaper bag.

First stop: Little Italy for some late night dessert and champagne (or ginger ale). I didn’t bring my flash on this trip, so it was fun to test the limits of my lens and the high ISOs on my beloved Canon 5d.

Back at the loft, Sarah cooks up an amazing meal. I wish I had that natural talent.

Niagara wine, fine cheeses, good friends….the best.

We decided to splurge one night on a suite at the famous Royal York Hotel. Luxury!

Somehow, at midnight we decided a top model photo shoot was necessary.

Sarah is Naomi Campbell, and I am her assistant.

Leanne’s husband advised her that no pillowfights were allowed in her condition, since of course that’s what all women do when they get together.

A highlight of the trip for me was once again being in Toronto for the Contact Photography Festival. One of my favourite spots in the city, the Gladstone Hotel, is one of the venues. On some floors, a different artist displays their work in each hotel room, and on others, the rooms are occupied by hotel guests, but the hallways are lined with art.

I realized when I got home that this may be the only proof that I was on the trip.

I love taking advantage of gorgeous architechture and window light….and of course a new belly.

Out for a stroll on Queen West.

I just liked this blue mailbox. That’s all.

And lastly, a few impromptu colourful shots in the alley.

Amanda & Kevin’s Windy Waterfront E-Session

Amanda & Kevin are getting married next month (so soon! eek!) at the lovely Minnekhada Lodge in Coquitlam. They’re such a fun, easy-going couple, and I’m sure their wedding is going to be the same. Get this: Ceremony at the Lodge, followed by dessert buffet at sunset! This is my kinda wedding.

But first, we took a little photo tour of their new west waterfront neighbourhood…starting with one of my favorite places to capture romance: a gritty, graffiti-ridden train yard.

…and managed to not get arrested for trespassing along the way.

Then down to the water…to some lovely legal public property.

Look at that connection. They forgot about me pretty quickly.

Baby Shower Foto-booth!

I don’t know how I didn’t get around to posting this event earlier! As a gift for my sister’s baby shower in March, I set up a photo booth for people to get in some pictures and have some fun. We had a blast doing it, and it was great for her to have this keepsake from the shower. It’s not often that all these women get together, so it’s a great way to let personalities shine through a little more than your average snapshots.

If you’re interested in having this set up at your wedding, just let me know!

Little did she know at the time, that she would give birth only 2 weeks later!

David and I clearly upset that our gift for the baby wasn’t as original as we’d thought.

What a jaunty little baby hat.

High kicks while holding a drink and taking the photo. What a talented new daddy.

Congrats on the awesome party, and beautiful baby!

Deborah & Sean’s English Bay E-Session

Once again, I seem to have fallen behind on the blogging, but this Spring has been action-packed so far, and I can’t wait to catch you up on what I’ve been up to.

So let’s start with the fabulous Deborah & Sean.

I’m super excited about their upcoming wedding in Whistler this summer. Sean has moved here from Australia, so it’s sure to be quite the family reunion, and with these two it’s sure to be quite the party. They’ve rented out a great big lodge in Whistler and plan to host the festivities themselves there. I love a good backyard-style informal wedding, and excited to once again use Whistler as a gorgeous backdrop to the festivities.

Deborah & Sean live right at English Bay, so for the session wanted to feature the amazing view that exists right outside their door. They also brought their two adorable little dogs to round out the family portrait.

There was a lot of “where’s waldo” going on during my editing process…little doggies popping up unexpectedly!

Of course it wouldn’t be an English Bay photo shoot to show family in Australia without fitting in an inukshuk!

I never used to think I was a little dog king of girl, but now I occasionally show my husband this photo to remind him how cute our new little dog could be. So far no success.

Thanks, guys! Can’t wait for the big day!
