To say it rained on Louisa & Chris’ wedding day would be an understatement. It POURED. ALL. DAY.
But did anyone complain? Not once. Amazing.

How fitting to start the day at Rain Salon….

To say this group “made the best of it” despite the rain would be quite an understatement. We had some serious fun that day.

Remember these?! I love this idea for placecards. Louisa’s a girl after my own heart and so much of this wedding was either DIY or by independent artists on Etsy. Check out the vendor list at the end!

You may remember Louisa & Chris’ fondness for frisbee golf from their engagement session. They managed to find mini versions for guests to play during cocktail hour.

Cute custom toppers. Personalized right down to the exact boutonniere and hair fascinator.

Because their wedding was in the afternoon, Louisa & Chris knew they’d need to find a way to keep the party going. Most obvious solution? Bowling, of course.

Ellen & Julian’s wedding was the first Jewish wedding I have photographed/attended, and after theirs I hope there are plenty more to come. It was one of the most fun nights of my life… and I was working!

A Jewish wedding day is truly an amazing experience from beginning to end. A perfect mix of ancient tradition and uninhibited fun. Ellen took the time to sit down and teach me not just about what was going to happen, but why. They pulled off a beautifully personal blend of honouring ancient customs, while still making the day their own. It was a (long!) day I’ll never forget.

It all began at the bride’s family home:

Off to Steveston Shipyards for some “first look” portrait time. No official wedding party = lots of cozy couple time.

The B’deken. An intimate ceremony witnessed by the closest family & friends where the Ketubah & civil documents are signed.

Julian places the veil over Ellen’s face, signifying his commitment to clothe and protect his wife.

The wedding ceremony. The Chuppah symbolizes the home that the couple will build together. It’s open on all sides to welcome friends and relatives with unconditional hospitality. The bride circles the groom 7 times to envelop him in her protective care. The number 7, paralleling the 7 days of creation, symbolizes the fact that the couple are about to create their own new world.

(The ceremony was shot in low light with no flash, as requested by the couple, to protect the intimacy of the event)

The Sheva Brachot (or 7 blessings) mark the completion of the wedding ceremony and are recited over a cup of wine. (Now that’s my kind of blessing! )

The guests enjoy cocktail hour while the lovely couple and I sneak out for a few more portraits. And I’m so glad we did!

Now this is when things get really interesting. The Hora takes the wedding reception to a whole new level of fun.

Julian doesn’t have a lot of confidence in his chair supporters.

I love playing photographic name-that-tune when I edit the photos after the wedding. Any guesses?

I was warned ahead of time that Ellen’s good friend might break out in a ‘sexy dance’ for her at some point in the reception. It was epic.

At midnight we packed up and headed home, but the party was showing no sign of slowing. Always a good sign.

Carly & Damon’s Grouse Mountain wedding was relaxed, pretty, intimate, and full of great food & wine. What more could you ask for.

I’m a big fan of the ‘first look’. Seeing eachother before the ceremony comes in especially handy with a venue like Grouse Mountain, because once you’re up there you don’t exactly want to be leaving for pictures and coming back. Carly and Damon are urbanites and wanted their photos to be a reflection of that.

Harry Rosen head to toe. Why should a man have to rent a tux when these are all pieces he can use over and over again! Loving the blue and orange.

Reason #137 why I like these guys. What started out as a pretty bridal portrait….

…became an opportunity Damon didn’t want to miss.

Meanwhile, on the patio at Grouse Mountain….

(You may recognize the couple here as Jen & Reid, whose wedding I photographed in September 2009. Carly & Damon booked me at their reception!)

Brent Sheppard was their wedding commissioner, and was fantastic as usual.

Oh, how I love the thrilled parent hugs right after their children tie the knot.

Instead of the traditional bouquet toss, Carly surprised a friend by handing it to her during the reception. I loved the boyfriend’s reaction.

FAQs… sort of (frequently asked questions that no one’s asked because it’s a new, one-time offer)

Q. My wedding doesn’t fall into your thoughtfully designed offer. Does that mean you don’t want to hear from me?
A. Absolutely not! Meaning, it absolutely does not mean that not absolutely we do not want to hear from you. If you’re half as confused as we are by this answer, then please contact us anyway and we’d be happy to talk about your day.

Q. Who will be providing the hair and makeup service? Please don’t tell me it’s your sister or something.
A. Well, this is awkward. It actually is Jana’s sister but fortunately she’s also the extremely talented owner of Glamourpuss Mobile Makeup www.glamourpussmakeup.ca

Q. What if I don’t need hair and makeup service for my wedding?
A. If that’s the case, you’re going to need another package! Contact us and we can discuss a package that will better suit your needs.

Q. Do you offer albums and prints?
A. We’re so glad that you hadn’t yet asked this question but we thought to ask it for you. Yes we do! In fact we believe so strongly in the value of having a tangible record of your day that beginning in Spring 2012 all of our packages will include at least one custom designed album. We’re also happy to add any additional offered services to this package, such as photobooth, extra hours, etc.

Q. What if you’re already booked for my date?
A. Tough luck! That’s why we’re offering a special to fill in our remaining dates. okay, that came off a little harsh… Do not fret! We have a network of other photographers that we trust to refer you to who might still be available.

Q. Why aren’t these FAQs very helpful?
A. We brainstormed these over a couple of glasses of wine and as was mentioned above, no one has had an opportunity to ask any real questions yet. But thank you for taking the time to read them.

Aileen & Kelvin were married on Saturday and it was A-MAZING. It rained all morning but the clouds parted just in time for our urban photo shoot in New Westminster. I absolutely love the joy, love, and silliness this couple shares. While I was shooting the reception with a 2nd shooter, David was running the photobooth. He had such a great time with their family & friends and we just couldn’t wait to share.
