Rainy Pitt Meadows Wedding
In my 15+ year career as a wedding photographer in BC, this is only the 2nd time I’ve experienced a wedding day THIS rainy & blustery. But I’m SO THANKFUL for these rockstar clients who 100% understood the assignment and pushed through with joy…and a complete disregard for the cleanliness of their attire.
Luckily, Golden Eagle was a great wedding venue for this kind of weather. They were able to have the ceremony outside, but undercover, and still enjoy the gorgeous view. The mountains, fall leaves, and vast environment surrounding the golf club were the main selling features for them when they chose this venue for their Pitt Meadows wedding.
One of the perks of getting married at Golden Eagle is that you can book SKY helicopters for portrait time up on a mountaintop. Unfortunately the weather meant the trip had to be cancelled last minute, but they were able to use the credit for another session at a later date. (Spoiler: We recently used the credit 1 year after the wedding for a helicopter maternity shoot and landed at a private mountaintop lake!)
The day started at the bride’s family home for a tea ceremony, and perhaps a hint of humiliation with some door games for the groom Ken to endure. He was a good sport, and clearly achieved the goal because his bride emerged from the bedroom, confident enough in his singing of Backstreet Boys to be sure he’d make a good husband.
Ken’s parents have passed away, but I loved how they still included & honoured them in the tea ceremony. The couple presented the tea where the parents would have been seated and then poured it into a bowl. I thought it was a really special way to acknowledge them.
Perhaps some of the credit for the blustery day going so smoothly can go to Ken who’s a part-time yoga teacher. His top wedding planning advice for future couples is to keep sane with “yoga breaths”.
