Fun Extended Family Session // Vancouver Family Photographer
This was a fun session for me because my good friend Caitlyn asked if I could wrangle their whole extended family crew as a gift to the grandparents. I thought that was such a sweet thing for the adult kids & their partners to organize. Everyone has enough “stuff” these days, and this was a great opportunity to give an experience gift that also creates tangible memories to look back on after it’s done.
This group did a great job taking my wardrobe advice and avoided being too matchy matchy, but still stayed within a coordinating jewel toned colour family. The colours stood out really nicely in the surroundings, and also really complemented each person individually. (Especially the gorgeous red hair!)
At an extended family session my goal is to get a nice posed shot of each grouping, then mix in plenty of sillies too, so people don’t get tired of just standing still and smiling at me. This session took about 90 minutes, but boy did we accomplish a lot in that time. Just in this blog post I can count 16 different combinations of people, and there were more in the full gallery!
And I generally don’t support guns at photoshoots, but when they’re of the Nerf variety, I’m 100% on board. After all that posing, the family decided to let chaos reign and attack each other with foam darts & balls. Obviously this now takes top spot for my favourite way to end a photo session.
